Do you have an online store and use Google Analytics and Gmail? Spend a lot of time answering customer emails? How about getting relevant analytics data about your orders directly in your email? The Analytics Buddy Gmail add-on is your simple, secure, yet powerful analytics CRM system for Gmail. Get contextual analytics data when you look at your orders in Gmail and craft relevant emails to your customers.

Does this work for any online shopping platform?

Analytics Buddy works on any platform, whether it’s Shopify, Yahoo Store or Magento, as long as you receive order confirmations by email when your customers place an order. Analytics Buddy scans your order confirmation email for order numbers. When it’s found one it can then ask Google Analytics for the data for that particular order.

What are the requirements?

  • Gmail on the web or the Gmail app.
  • Google Analytics with e-commerce tracking enabled.
  • In order to suggest related products you also need enhanced e-commerce enabled and have a Google Sheet that has product images associated with product SKUs. Click here for an example Google Sheet.

No data?

Here are some things to check:

  • Do you have e-commerce tracking and enhanced ecommerce enabled in Google Analytics?
  • Are you using the right View ID? When you first install the add-on, we’ll return the first View ID we find. If you have access to many Google Analytics accounts, this may not be the right one. Not sure where to find the right View ID? Look in the Settings or use the Google Analytics account explorer.
  • Do you have the right Regex? Order numbers are typically comprised of your store identifier and an increasing number. So if your order number looks like this:
    • yahoo-123 then you can use yahoo\-\d+
    • #1234 would be #\d+
    • \d+ in the above examples is your best friend. In Regex lingo it means “match one or more numbers”. To learn more about Regex and to craft the one that works for you take a look at Regexr.
  • Did you just get the order confirmation email? If so, Google Analytics may not have the data ready yet.
  • Check the date ranges to make sure the transaction is within that range. If you have a lot of traffic you may find it necessary to pick a shorter data range because Google Analytics may not be able to find the transaction due to sampling.

Why not automate follow-up responses?

Sure, many apps and services send out automated emails, but those are typically one-size fits all. Analytics Buddy puts you in charge by suggesting relevant data so you can decide how to communicate with your customers.

What about privacy?

Analytics Buddy works in Gmail, Google Analytics and Google Sheets. For this reason, you’ll have to accept those scopes when you install our add-on so that it can access those resources on your behalf. Your settings, such as the Google Analytics View ID and Regex, are stored within the Google apps script service, not in an external database or file. Any data displayed in the add-on is sent directly from Google Analytics to your device. Analytics Buddy does not store or read any of your analytics data and the data displayed in Gmail stays within Gmail. Our add-on doesn’t even ask for your email address, so don’t expect any emails from us.

We do gather aggregate, non personally-identifiable information about the usage of the add-on via Google Analytics.
